Short stories – A tool to get readers feedback for my WIP

During the writing process of a novel, the writer has to decide what to include and what to exclude. He should decide about plot twists and characters and many other things. These decisions can affect the final success or failure of the novel. How can a writer find out about the right decision from his would-be readers?

I use short stories for this purpose. I write short stories from my selected scenes in my novel and publish them on my blog. Then from the feedback I get from readers of my blog I can decide what is right and is going to work.

It is not a complete tool but has satisfactory results. It is also a practice and exercise for writing the main story. I am going to write more short stories in the future. They really helped me to be a better writer.
